What do all those class numbers mean!?

This is a history of all the classes I have taken and what technical skills the provided me with. My most recent classes are listed first because they have been the most exciting. Items listed in red are classes that make me a valuable asset.

My detailed summer activities are not documented on this page.

I have taken 128 required credit hours and 6 extra credit hours in technical classes for a grand total of 134 undegraduate credit hours.

Fall 1998 (12 hours)

• CS 322 - Computer Languages. Of all my undergrad classes, this has been the first that has been 98% grad students, 2% undergrads.
• CS 327 - Software Engineering. I already have something funny to say about this: The Top 10 reasons to NOT take CS327 as provided by the professor.
• Math 361 - Probability and Statistics. Required class to graduate on counting, random variables, and stats. This would have been a beneficial class to have taken before ECE 340. This is a graduation requirement that I left til my last semester.
• Physics 319 - Space Time and Matter. A Composition II class on philosophical reasoning and writting skills dealing with complex physics issues. A graduation requirement that I left til my last semester.

Spring 1998 (13 hours)

• ECE 342 - Amplifiers. About as exciting to me as ECE 340.
• CS 323 - Operating Systems. We investigated issues in Operating System design through machine problems based on adding functionality to a mini-kernel called "nachos". Topics we covered were paging algorithms, process scheduling, case studies of various old operating systems, memory management and more.
• ECE 311 - Microcomputer lab.
• MATH 225 - Intro to matrix theory. Just a refresher course.

Fall 1997 (12 hours)

• CS 321 - Compilers and Languages - Introduction to Compiler and Languages using lex, yacc, and the ML language.
• ECE 340 - Semiconductor electronics. I never plan on doing any silicon wafer design, so this class was very useless.
• ECE 249 - Digital Systems Lab - We went through ten TTL logic labs and had to produce a final 5 week project. I worked with Irena to make a TTL logic chip validator. This chip tester, when given a simple TTL logic chip, was able to determine the chip kind, and whether the chip functions were correct. It used a 68hc11 embedded processor, FPGA (programmed in a VHDL), and a small UI on a PC computer to display the results of the testing.
• CS 328 - Distributed Systems - Broadcast protocols, timing, failure types, election problems, name server solutions. We touched on ATM and its channel switching features and Remote Procedure Calls.
• CS 110j - Java programming

Spring 1997 (13 hours)

• CS 318 - Computer Graphics. who knew that a computer graphics class I completely understand would be this darn hard.
• ECE 309 - Analog and Digital Signal Analysis. Mathematical solutions of digital/analog signal analysis. We learned how Fourier Transforms work as well as Laplace Transforms for solving systems of equations between time and space domains.
• ECE 312 - Computer Architecture and Design. Made a MIPS processor. I love VHDL.
• Pol Sci 150 - American Politics. Blah blah blah.

Fall 1996 (13 hours)

• CS 225 - C++ data structures and algorithms.
• ECE 229 - Electromagentic field mathematics. Gave me a better understanding of the theory behind electrons, magnetic fields and consequences of transmission line effects.
• ECE 291 - Computer Architecture II. x86 assembly language programming.
• Econ 102 @ UIUC - Macroeconomics

Summer 1995, Fall 1995, Spring 1996, Summer, 1996

Triton College!

Spring 1995 (15 hours)

• CS 223 - C++ programming laboratory. Listed as a 1 hour class, this took well over 10 hours of time each week. For most other people, that meant 20 hours.
• ECE 270 - Circuit Torture. Circuit Analysis. Electrical Engineering is not my pforte. If someone would have taught me how to use Spice to solve circuits, I would have understood this class much more at the time I took it.
• ECE 290 - Computer Engineering I - This class kicked ass. I learned computer design in Mentor Graphics. Also about PLAs and logic tables.
• Math 285 - Diffy screwed. Differential Equations.
• Phycs 108 - Quantum Physics. By doing poorly in this class, it bummed me out and drove down my will to work on ECE 270 and Math 285.

Fall 1994 (14 hours)

• CS 125 - Intro to Computer Science for Computer Engineers. I learned Scheme, a simple "functional" based language. In my freetime, I played with a Scheme interpreter for the Apple IIgs.
• CS 173 - Boolean Logic. P or TRUE is TRUE!
• CLCLIV 111 - Mythology. Lots of memory work, and easily confuseable names. Exams were written to take advantage of this.. be warned.
• Math 242 - Calculus of Several Variables. I also had Paul Gies for this class! By this point, I was getting too used to his teaching style. ;-) My first class in Altgeld Hall. The room temp was continually un-optimal.
• Physics 107 - Exams by Satan himself.

Summer 1994

Spring 1994 (16 hours!)

• Chem 102 - Organic Physical Chemistry. In my opinion, this is a very stupid core class for Computer Engineers. I enjoyed and excelled at high school chemistry. This was a waste of time. The lab was very monotonous and proved that TAs without a clue can really screw up your results.
• ECE 271HU - Intro to Computer Engineering. ECE 110 before it was created. Awesome lab. Made a roving car that followed white lines with light sensors and a few logic chips. I learned about basic circuits, semiconductors and electronics in this class.
• LAS 110 - Math 120 extra credit section for using Mathematica to solve some problems.
• Math 130 - Calc II. I also had Paul Gies for this class too! He rocks.
• Physics 106 - Basic physics. Exams from hell. I enjoyed high school physics... I should have gotten as much AP credit as possible, but that was not an option for me. :-(

Fall 1993 (17 hours! Very poor planning!) Freshman year.

• Chem 101 - Basic Chemistry.
• Eng 100 - Intro to the college of engineering. An intro to the services of the College Of Engineering as well as to email, an integral part of any engineer's world and college students social life!
• Hist 111 - Western Civilizations in history. Beyond boring.
• Math 120 - Calculus I. Paul Gies was an awesome prof.
• Rhet 105 - Generic writing class.
