STG President and CEO Simon Lee Named Honorable Citizen of Icheon
Korean City Honors Lee with Award Ceremony
Icheon, South Korea — August 12, 2009 — While on travel in South Korea, STG President and CEO Mr. Simon Lee made an important stop in the city of Icheon. At a special event before the monthly city council meeting, Mr. Lee was awarded an Honorable Citizen of Icheon and presented with a celadon porcelain plaque honoring the achievement.
“We are so proud to name Mr. Lee as an Honorable Citizen of our city,” said city Mayor Mr. Byong Don Cho, who presented the plaque to Mr. Lee. “Mr. Lee is a role model for many young generations of our city and it is our privilege to honor him.”
Notable guests at the event included Mr. Kisoo Lee, President of Korea University; Mr. Mansoo Lee, former President of Hotel Shila; Mr. Ki Seok Park, CEO of Si-gong Tech; Mr. Philip Lee, Simon’s son and a rising celebrity in Korea; and Mr. Yongha Park, a Korean movie, television and music star.
“I have always felt great affection towards the city of Icheon because it is a city teeming with love and humanity,” said Mr. Lee. “As an ambassador of public information for Icheon, I will put my best effort towards promoting the city and its unique cultural heritage.”
Mr. Lee is a role model to many Korean citizens. As a first-generation Korean immigrant, he came to the United States to seek a better life for himself and his family. What he has accomplished since arriving in 1979 is nothing short of remarkable. With just $3,400 to his name, he began his rapid ascent at the ground floor, taking a job as a bookkeeper for a small seafood restaurant in Washington, DC. From there he worked as a junior programmer at Computer Data Systems and then moved to MCI.
In 1986, his dream began to take shape — he founded STG as a family-oriented company focused on taking care of its employees. What started out as a small business venture has since blossomed into a $200 million company. What was once his dream has become reality.
“What I want people to know is that they can realize their dreams…I am living proof of that,” said Mr. Lee. “Everyone has the opportunity to succeed, and everyone has the potential to reach the goals they set.”
Written upon the oval plaque presented to Mr. Lee are the words, “Wherever you are, we appreciate your support as an honorable citizen for the development of Icheon city,” and “Icheon loves you.”
