• Designed and developed a wireless fire extinguisher monitoring system using ZigBee networking technology. The system monitors extinguisher pressurization, extinguisher presence, obstructions that would prevent extinguisher use, and tampering with the system. Project included complete hard and software design and development of wireless sensor interface, network infrastructure router and gateways and external interfaces.
• Designed the hardware, software, and lock mechanicals for a wirelessly networked storage system which also included alarm and tamper detection plus content inventorying using magnetic induction-based content tags. The system used 802.15.4 radios in a custom designed, ruggedized encapsulated form factor with iButton fobs to identify and control access. Using a variety of tamper sensing technologies (including high accuracy 3-axis accelerometers), the system detected unauthorized access attempts and activated alarms including external devices and various electronic notification. The inventory system used a magnetic induction technology to operate in a highly cluttered and reflective environment with large amounts of metal and other interference sources which effectively overwhelmed RFID or other radio frequency based strategy. The system was designed for easy deployment and robust operation for extended use while powered off an easily replaceable battery pack. STG developed the hardware located in the storage units as well as the central receiver plus all associated embedded and PC-based software including the PC-based management software system.
• Developed the software and hardware for STG's 802.15.4 Network Bridge. The Network Bridge enables bridging two 802.15.4 network segments over an Ethernet backbone allowing operation over wider areas and over multiple channels.
• Designed and developed the hardware, software, and mechanicals for a ZigBee router in an easy to deploy wall plug style case. Supporting and embedded configuration menu, customers and OEMs can easily and quickly configure key network parameters allowing fast and simple deployment of networks using these devices.
• Designed and developed the hardware, software, and mechanicals for an RS422/485 adapter to support these devices over a ZigBee network. Devices were designed for easy customization and deployment using an embedded configuration interface. Supporting both RS422 and 485 communications, these devices can be used to quickly and easily enable industrial and commercial devices to communicate wirelessly. These adapters are parts of STG's SNI product family for industrial and commercial applications.
• Designed a flexible and extensible sensing package for a major sensing OEM supporting their 802.15.4 radio module with a dedicated sensing processor and an extensible sensor adapter board architecture. The flexible design permitted the radio module to be used as a dedicated RF network coprocessor and offload all of the sensing logic to the external processor on the controller PCB designed by STG. By attaching self-identifying sensor-specific interface boards to the controller PCB, the same system is able to support a multitude of complex sensing applications using the same base hardware. STG developed a series of sensor-specific modules including wide-range RTDs (Resistive Temperature Devices supporting copper and platinum RTDs of a variety of different types), high accuracy voltage sensors, and industrial 4-20mA current receivers.

These routers for an integral part of STG's Sensor Network Infrastructure (SNI) product family.
