• Developed one of the first commercial USB 2.0 protocol stacks and associated drivers for SCO, OpenServer and UnixWare product lines. Supported USB 2.0 EHCI host controllers with fall back support to USB 1.1 for non-high speed USB devices.
• Ported 32-bit compatible Windows kernel-mode drivers to 64-bit Windows; in one instance, this include adapting existing drivers provided remote control capabilities for a product running on the 32-bit IA32 versions of Windows. These drivers were ported to both IA64 and AMD64 platforms, and the code tree was modified to build the binaries for the different platforms from a single set of source code. These drivers were then tested under Windows XP 2003 64-bit.
• Designed and implemented a multiplatform make system using gnumake and nmake for a large Solaris, UnixWare, and Windows NT source base. This permitted easy management and creation of software releases for the various platforms.
• Created an Internet Explorer / Windows Explorer plug-in to allow display of web services advertised using Apple's Rendezvous protocol. Rendezvous advertised web services appear as bookmarks within the "Favorites" window as they are found eliminating the need to search for new services and allowing new web sites, FTP repositories, etc. to be advertised to users automatically.
• Extended a major UNIX OEM's USB 2.0 protocol stack by adding support for USB printer class devices. Both uni and bidirectional printer communication was supported allowing print-aware applications to closely monitor and control the printer. A general UNIX character device style interface was presented with special ioctl calls to query printer status. A USB-related daemon was created to monitor USB printer connections to ensure that a consistent device node name would always be associated with a printer located on a specific physical port regardless of the order the printer was found or connected.
• Created a customized Windows installation packages that automatically install and configure STG's TextPrint and FlexPort printer drivers without user interaction for a major supplier of financial and accounting software.
• Performed video driver and video related debugging under Windows 2000/NT/9x for a remote control product to permit remote access of a Windows system over a LAN or WAN. Specific video problems were investigated and corrected as needed as part of an ongoing product support effort. Also implemented a null keyboard and null mouse driver to simulate a hardware keyboard and mouse devices to enhance remote control capabilities.
• Added USB serial communications support to a major UNIX OEM's USB 2.0 protocol stack. Both USB communications class devices as well as over a dozen vendor-specific USB serial adapters and modems were supported using a family of drivers. A general UNIX character device style interface was presented which permitted applications using serial ports and in-kernel processes such as PPP to use the USB-based serial ports. Full ioctl support was provided to allow applications to control baud rates, line discipline characteristics, and other standard serial port properties. A USB-specific daemon was extended to monitor USB serial connections to ensure consistent device node naming for a specific physical serial port regardless of the order the associated serial port was found or connected.
• Implemented a Windows NT4 2000/XP printer port monitor as an enhancement to the built-in Windows print to file capability. This enhancement allows applications to print to local files without any user interactions. It also supports launching a post-processing application, either after every print job or after the printer port has been idle for a configurable time period, to further process the output file without user intervention.
• Implemented a reference LAN over WAN adapter NDIS driver for Windows 2000 and XP. This driver was developed to be used as a Windows driver reference and example for developers creating WAN drivers and to demonstrate NDIS development concepts. This driver will be available as part of a future Microsoft Windows DDK release.
• Created an automated tool to mechanize the creation of software product masters by eliminating the possibility of creating invalid masters and providing automatic checking and master verification for a major software manufacturer.
• Ported a UNIX-based USB 1.1 stack developed by STG to Linux on Intel and added USB 2.0 support. The final USB stack was implemented using the Uniform Driver Interface (UDI) support developed by STG and resulted in higher overall throughput than native Linux support for most USB controllers.
• Implemented Java applets which can communicate with existing devices via SNMP to allow the management and control of these devices from a wide range of platforms without having to develop system-specific management software for each platform.
• Debugged and performance tuned in kernel software modules implementing the Uniform Driver Interface (UDI) for a major UNIX OEM.
• Developed drivers to support EAPOL (802.1X-2001) for Windows operating system releases not providing native EAPOL support. These drivers were tested with a variety of different OEM wireless adapters and access points (including Cisco, Agere, Lucent, and others) and then incorporated into a client application that performed authentication with a RADIUS server via a several user configurable authentication protocols.
• Implemented a mirror video driver for Windows 2000 and XP to permit remote display and access to a complete Windows desktop over a network connection. This driver worked together with the resident local video driver to capture and duplicate video operations on a remote display system.
• Developed a USB 1.1 protocol stack and class drivers for keyboards, mice, and mass storage devices for a major UNIX OEM. The underlying USB architecture was built using the Uniform Driver Interface (UDI) technology to meet both portability and high performance goals. This effort included USB device driver development with suppport for UHCI and OHCI hardware interfaces. In addition to UNIX support, the final stack and drivers were ported to Linux port forming an integral part of a shipping Linux implementation.
• As part of our participation in Project UDI STG developed and maintains the Linux reference implementation of the Uniform Driver Interface (UDI environment for the Redhat, Caldera, Suse and other Linux distributions on Intel, PowerPC, SPARC, and Alpha hardware platforms providing support for both single processor and multiprocessor hardware platforms.

• Development of proxies for all key Internet application level protocols (FTP, Telnet, HTTP, NNTP, Real Audio, etc.) for a vendor of a Windows NT based Internet firewall product. Implementation was done in an extensible manner using C++ to allow new proxies to be easily developed.
• Created a customized GUI and packaging for a wireless Windows-based LAN/Modem product family to suit the needs of specific European OEMs. The customization was handled by developing a separate DLL to support generating additional OEM-specific product versions with minimal effort and without modifications to the base product code.
