• Designed and developed a wireless fire extinguisher monitoring system using ZigBee networking technology. The system monitors extinguisher pressurization, extinguisher presence, obstructions that would prevent extinguisher use, and tampering with the system. Project included complete hard and software design and development of wireless sensor interface, network infrastructure router and gateways and external interfaces.

• Developed the software and hardware for STG's 802.15.4 Network Bridge. The Network Bridge enables bridging two 802.15.4 network segments over an Ethernet backbone allowing operation over wider areas and over multiple channels.

• Designed and developed the hardware, software, and mechanicals for a ZigBee router in an easy to deploy wall plug style case. Supporting and embedded configuration menu, customers and OEMs can easily and quickly configure key network parameters allowing fast and simple deployment of networks using these devices.

• Developed software for an embedded, free standing gateway to support the operation of a high-performance 802.15.4-based mesh network. The device used Atmel and Chipcon components and supported network formation and management capabilities and permitted serial access to node status including environmental conditions, digital I/O, and other interfaces. The use of this standalone gateway enabled rapid network deployment by eliminating the use of an external PC and increased the over reliability of the network installation and operation processes.

• Created a software "extender" to support the development of 802.15.4 applications and protocol stacks in a non-embedded environment while using the actual target hardware to support RF operations.  The extender provided an identical interface to that provided by STG's embedded 802.15.4 MAC implementation in order to speed the adaptation of host-developed applications to the embedded environment.  The ability to develop and debug applications using the richer host-side tools reduces the development cycle while maintaining a high degree of code portability with the embedded target device.

• Designed and developed the hardware, software, and mechanicals for an RS422/485 adapter to support these devices over a ZigBee network. Devices were designed for easy customization and deployment using an embedded configuration interface. Supporting both RS422 and 485 communications, these devices can be used to quickly and easily enable industrial and commercial devices to communicate wirelessly. These adapters are parts of STG's SNI product family for industrial and commercial applications.

• Ported a wireless Ethernet 802.3 wireless LAN/Modem product to Windows 2000/XP from Windows 9x. This included installation, configuration, and management applications as well as performing NDIS 3.10 to NDIS 5.0 conversion and updating for the corresponding protocol drivers. The product was extended to take advantage of Windows 2000 specific features and capabilities such as multi-user handling and permission support. Created custom installation and packaging designed for direct to consumer distribution and installation. The baseline code was modified to allowing building Windows 2000 and Windows 9x products from the same source base; producing either a single binary capable of running on all platforms or building platform specific binaries from a single code base.

• Developed proof of concept applications using 802.15.4 development kits to demonstrate wireless sensing systems. Project involved modification to hardware to incorporate sensors and development of software for monitoring and presentation of data.

• Customized GUI and packaging for a wireless Windows-based LAN/Modem application family to suit the needs of specific European OEMs. The customization was handled by developing a separate DLL to support generating additional OEM-specific product versions with minimal effort and without modifications to the base product. This allowed the existing application to be adapted quickly to the marketing needs of specific OEMs.

• Designed and developed the hardware, software, and mechanicals for an ZigBee router in an easy to deploy wall plug style case. Supporting and embedded configuration menu, customers and OEMs can easily and quickly configure key network parameters allowing fast and simple deployment of networks using these devices. These routers for an integral part of STG's Sensor Network Infrastructure (SNI) product family.

• Created a customized GUI and packaging for a wireless Windows-based LAN/Modem product family to suit the needs of specific European OEMs. The customization was handled by developing a separate DLL to support generating additional OEM-specific product versions with minimal effort and without modifications to the base product code.

• Developed a STREAMS-based driver and user-level API for Solaris to allow external control over inbound and outbound IP traffic, to be used in implementing several wired and wireless network security applications. This software provides a framework for other in-kernel modules or user applications to inspect and possibly modify IP packets traveling to or from the Solaris host.

• Developed embedded networking stack and support software for dedicated environmental monitoring modules used for facility management. Each device contained a network connection for communications on the monitoring network and a variety of A2D and contact closure sensors. Devices were used to monitor temperatures, pressures, switch states and interfaced to other specialized hardware. Additional support was added in subsequent updates to support wireless 802.11b communications to provide greater location flexibility for the monitoring modules as well as adding limited output control capabilities through D2A, binary, and contact closure outputs.

• Developed device drivers to support EAPOL (802.1X-2001) for Windows operating system releases not providing native EAPOL support. These device drivers were tested with a variety of different OEM wireless adapters and access points (including Cisco, Agere, Lucent, and others) and then incorporated into a client application that performed authentication with a RADIUS server via a several user configurable authentication protocols.

• Extended a wireless Windows-based LAN/Modem product to include support for Windows XP and HomeRF 2.0. Work was based on an earlier Windows 2000 port performed by STG with specific changes for Windows XP and additional wireless device support. This resulted in a single merged version of the product supporting all existing environments and devices plus Windows XP and HomeRF 2.0. The merged code includes applications for installation, configuration, and management of wireless Ethernet adapters and gateways. In addition, debugging of NDIS miniport and protocol drivers using WinDbg was performed and modifications were made as needed.
