Need all of your data? Then get it all with TextPrint !

Need all of your data? Get it with STG's TextPrint driver.

While Windows supports an incredible range of printers, in some cases you simply need to get the data out of your application in a form you can use. Seems this would be a simple operation, but sending plain ASCII output to a file from an arbitrary application is tough (and in some cases, not even possible). Many applications support an export feature but you can't always get the data you want in the form you want - this is where the Software Technologies Group TextPrint driver can help.

You can try to set up a "Generic Text Printer" on your system, but you'll soon find that this doesn't capture all of your data. You'll find data truncated, cut off, mashed, loaded with extra print codes, and generally not at all what you expected. You need all of the data in some sort of form you can make sense of, but how can you do it?

The STG TextPrint printer driver provides a way to capture the information that would normally be printed in ASCII form in a file which you specify at print time. With TextPrint, you get all of the data without loss or truncation and with most of the formatting preserved (subject to some restrictions and limitations in the event of varying font sizes and other issues). Once the data has been saved to a file, you're ready to import it into a database, pull it into a spreadsheet, or send it off to another application for further processing. You can collect, collate, sort, and select the data you need using the full capabilities of your application and then get it out in a form you can use. With TextPrint, you'll get all of the data your application is sending, not just some of it.

Here are some output examples from common applications:

Here is a populated copy of the Vehicle Mileage Log template supplied as part of Microsoft Office. If you tried to print this using the Generic Windows driver, you'd get this. Now, take a look at the same spreadsheet printed with the STG TextPrint driver.

You've got all of the data arranged in a form you can see and use. Whether the output is intended to be read by humans or processed by programs, all of your information is present and in a form that makes sense.

Don't just look at these files using your browser -- take a second to save the actual data and take a look at it using other applications like a simple text editor (use the "save as..." function in your browser). The output from the STG TextPrint driver is not only complete but also well formatted with lines cleanly ending using CR/LF delimiters. No missing lines and no extra printer control codes, either.

Peachtree Complete Accounting

Here is an example using the standard Peachtree Employee yearly earnings report. You can get a scanned image of the first page of the report as well as getting the actual report as it was generated using the Windows Generic/Text print driver plus the same report as generated using STG's TextPrint driver.
